Picture stuff: This week is a little crazy schedule-wise. It'll likely be two weeks before I can look at and process every photo that I took, but I'll post as I finish sets.
* * *
It's been 9 months since I first picked up a camera after years of photographic inactivity. I had no idea it would turn into something so genuinely epic. And I think Nekocon has been an important turning point where I feel completely integrated in con-culture. There are four people I would like to thank for their direct involvement in bringing to life the more artistic aspect of my personality, PhotoNinja: MissDragonblade, for taking a leap and agreeing to model Seto Kaiba for my very first real photoshoot; Kagomechann, for having such a fantastic Imp Midna that the photos on Cosplay.com have stayed on the front page for 5 months (!); and KurzesHaar and Mintflavored for being superb hosts, true friends and introducing me to many more phenomenal individuals.
The Nekocon Synopsis. Had a frantic Thursday evening packing everything to meet KurzesHaar and Minty at Tyson's Corner to form the entity known as the
D-Train - a word that must be both bold and italicized to properly emphasize that it is a Juggernaut of Awesome. Met up with lulubird and ayareinami*YAY*, ate some cupcakes, perused the fashion at Forever 21, and then hit the road. Easy drive down to Richmond to meet friends (could someone give me online handles?) who gave me my own bed in their attic, which was very comfortable. Thanks guys =D
Friday we hit the road again to pick up Tenshinoitami1. The drive felt like it lasted all of 5 minutes because of the mutual discovery that we really like cats and, in fact, share some of their feline characteristics. Cheese-kun was also an excellent companion.
When we got to the hotel we discovered that our room had no room number (*cue onimous horror-flick score*) and the door was being supported primarily by its lower hinges. As it turns out this was not a portent of our con experience, lol. Put everything away, geared up for the con, got there, and then had fun standing in the registration line. One thing I like about Neko's registration is that you enter your own information into a computer terminal and then pick up the printed registration at an adjacent table. It works out pretty smoothly although I'm curious why that methodology was chosen.
Anyway, while we were in line I met up with Bur Loire, aka Bur-chan, aka Tree-chan, aka Wait...Is that a Really Pretty Man, Because I Can't Tell?. Chatted for a little bit before I had to get back in line. Had no idea what kind of insanity I had just gotten myself into =P
After the reg line the real fun began with all the picture-taking. I'm glad I didn't do any real scheduling because that would have immediately and violently exploded in my face. I think everything worked out okay, but I'll definitely be perfecting the art of multiple simultaneous photoshoots at upcoming conventions. Tenshinoitami and I ended up ordering exactly the same thing at Mickey-D's for dinner, which was really wierd. Did some more photography, and then put the camera away for the evening in order to partake of Minty's excellent Apple Pie concoction. The hours from approximately 10pm to 12pm the next day will be stricken from the record ^_^
Saturday was all photos, all the time. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to do a mini-shoot with a mutual friend sporting some lovely lolita fashion. That night we also spent some time at the dance which was fun and then hung out with friends on the con floor. I suppose because I was tired I didn't really introduce myself to all of them (which I regret, sorry everyone) but I suspect and hope I will have another opportunity in the near future =)
My convention was - sadly - cut short on Sunday morning. It was a brief blur of activity as I had to drive back home early that morning to make it to a house party celebrating my good friend's engagement.
Shout-outs:
Daggie: Much <3 guys. Thanks for the sandwich!
Tenshinoitami and Vampirelematt: Y'all are so awesome. It was really a pleasure to meet you again, to get to know you, and to take pictures of your masterful costumes. Thank you so much for your patience and willingness to freeze outside.
Tree-chan and Co.: To the silliest group of cosplayers I have ever met: I am so happy I could spend so much time with you guys! Even though I was exhausted I can't express how much fun all three (four? - I lost count) of the 'shoots were.
Our Richmond Friends I can't Name Because This is Public: Thanks for being wonderful hosts =)
My lolita-fashion friend Whom I can't Name for the Same Reason: It was great to meet you! Thanks for standing outside to endure that chilly breeze, the conversation, and I look forward to working with you again ^_^
Sincerely,
'Ninja
